[…] sólo algún instante de mí potrà sobrevivir in el otro. J. L. Borges, Borges y yo. |

I am (apparently) a researcher in the field of statistical inference, with interests spanning cognitive sciences and philosophy of science, and a background in quantum and statistical physics. I am an assistant professor (ricercatore) within the Unit Networks at the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, where I teach information theory and statistical inference – also as part of the educational program of the National PhD in Artificial Intelligence. Recently, I have also become a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study of the University of Amsterdam. Together with colleagues from the Philosophy of Science Unit at the IMT School, I organize the project Scienza di Agatopia (Science of Agatopia). This is a discussion forum focusing on the relationship between science and society, offering a critique of scientism and scientific reductionism through lectures and dialogues. Since my arrival at the IMT School, I have been independently developing new research lines focused on the design of statistical inference methods and information theory (such as spectral methods for the statistical validation of clustering algorithms ([Ar 2026]), null models of complex networks ([Sa 2025], [diV 2026]), or the inference of statistical spin models ([Ar 2026b])) and on the application of these methods to the social sciences, with a particular emphasis on psychometric data analysis. The main results I contributed to during the (erratic) first part of my research career are summarized here. My publications can be found here, and some information about my teaching activity here.
